Mumbai Indians : IPL 2021 Team Review

Mumbai Indians

Swashbuckling performance in Arabian islands  reaped them yet another IPL title, they were head and shoulders above other teams in the 13th edition of IPL  but can they replicate the same intensity this time? Let's  have a look at their squad and analyze their potentials.

Auction Review

From MI's point of view there was little to do from their end in auction as they didn't  unsettled their core and retained all of their possible XI players except for relieving expansive buys and excess pacers. Just for the sake of auction or to say  for buying tertiary replacements Mumbai Indians  were among the quietest tables at the auction centre. Although they  played smartly by reducing their spendings on Nathan Coulter Nile  and also managed to intensify their pace attack by adding some serious pace. To be honest they are the team that scouts talent before they become too costly to pick in an auction be it Bumrah, Pandya brothers or Ishan Kishan they have sort of  good talent acquisition team on ground, this time they found a gem in Marco Jansen, quiet keen to see how good he fares. In Piyush Chawla they see a spin replacement a good one though, in case they have to play in deserts again. Yudhvir and Arjun  at their base prices were decent additions and  are MI's arsenal for future.

Strengths

They had their hands on trophy a lot more than any other team, this gives them a mental advantage of owning the game  on field. They as a unit are more combined and clear in their approach, every one in the team holds a responsibility and they know exactly how and when to do it. A quality opening pair, a solid middle order and a pack of reckless hitters in the end, give them any total and they will achieve it with an over in hand 9 out of 10 times. To add some icing on the cake they have  a lethal pace attack which compliments their batting efforts.

Weaknesses

Their is little which can be termed as weakness for a team as solid as them. Although nothing is perfect and same is the case with the most successful team of  the league and it is their spin attack though its being addressed checked by addition of Piyush Chawala but in my opinion it is still not good enough to handle the heat of Indian batsmen..... 4 overs, a lot can happen in them though Chahar  playing all his cards right or even a decent spell from him may be more than what MI asks for.

Opportunities

Mumbai as a franchise always make sure they invest good in talent, there are ample of opportunities for  likes of Arjun Tendulkar, Charak and Marco Jansen to learn from the best around them be it players, coaching staffs or resources MI have it all. Though they don't do it often Mumbai can actually try their new guns in initial stage of league , infact Mumbai Indians are the only team that have leverage of loosing  games early on ....... records say that. With their eyes on for Pollard's replacement they might try experimenting this time.

Threats

Do they rely quite too much on their PPP(Pollard and Pandya brothers) trio?......Yes is the answer. It's not like they have non performing opening partnerships or middle order failures ..its all good  but they leave way too much for the last batsmen around to do. In past one of three has  always  been there  for rescue but  they must learn from mighty CSK..... time changes.
